Ranking Methodology
How Topin.pk builds every ranking: how candidates are shortlisted, what evidence we use, how we score, and when a list gets updated.
Why we publish our method
A ranking is only useful if you can see how it was built. Every list on Topin.pk follows the process on this page, and each article carries a short "How we ranked" box summarising the criteria used for that specific topic. Where a topic needs different criteria, the article says so.
Step 1 — Building the shortlist
We start by defining the category boundary: what counts as an entry, and what does not. Candidates are gathered from publicly available sources such as official brand and company websites, published directories, verified marketplace listings, and reader suggestions sent through our contact form.
- The entry must be genuinely available to buyers or users in Pakistan.
- The entry must have enough public information for us to assess it.
- Reader suggestions are treated as leads to research, never as automatic inclusions.
Step 2 — Collecting evidence
For each shortlisted entry we record what we can verify: product or service specifications, published pricing, warranty and return terms, service coverage, and the volume and consistency of public customer feedback. Everything we rely on is listed in the Sources section of the article.
- Primary sources first: official sites, published terms, regulator and accreditation listings.
- Aggregated public reviews are treated as a signal of consistency, not as a score in themselves.
- Anything we could not verify is either excluded or explicitly marked as unverified.
Step 3 — Scoring criteria
Entries are scored against criteria chosen for the category before research begins, so criteria cannot be reverse-engineered to suit a preferred outcome. Most rankings use some combination of the following.
- Quality and reliability — build, materials, consistency of delivery.
- Value for money — what you get at the price, not the lowest price.
- Availability — where in Pakistan the entry can actually be obtained.
- Support and terms — warranty, returns, complaint handling, service network.
- Transparency — how clearly the provider publishes pricing and terms.
- Customer experience — the pattern in public feedback over time.
Step 4 — Weighting and tie-breaks
Criteria are weighted according to what matters most in that category. In a footwear ranking, durability carries more weight than delivery speed; in a home services ranking, the reverse is often true. Each article states the weighting it used. Where two entries score within a negligible margin, we break the tie in favour of the one with clearer published terms and wider availability, and we note in the article that the two are closely matched.
What we exclude
Some entries are left out even when they are well known. We exclude an entry when:
- There is not enough verifiable public information to assess it fairly.
- It is not reliably available to buyers in Pakistan.
- Its public information is materially inconsistent with what we can independently confirm.
- It sits outside the category boundary defined at the top of the article.
Review and update cycle
Rankings are reviewed on a schedule appropriate to how quickly the category moves — pricing-sensitive categories are checked more often than slow-moving ones. Every article shows both a published date and a last-updated date so you can judge how current it is. Prices, availability and terms change frequently; always confirm current details with the provider before making a decision.
Commercial independence
Placement in a ranking cannot be bought, and no advertiser, affiliate partner or sponsor sees a list before it is published. Rankings are finalised before any commercial relationship is considered. Read our affiliate disclosure and advertising policy for the full picture of how the site is funded.
Our rankings are editorial opinion
A Topin.pk ranking reflects our assessment against published criteria at a point in time. It is not a certification, an audit, or a guarantee of outcome, and it is not a substitute for your own checks. Reasonable people applying different weightings would reach different orders — that is why we publish the weighting rather than only the result.
Tell us where we got it wrong
If you believe a ranking has a factual error, missing entry or outdated figure, send it to us with a source and we will review it under our corrections policy.
