Methodology
Corrections Policy
We get things wrong sometimes. This page explains how to tell us, how quickly we respond, and how corrections are disclosed.
How to request a correction
Send corrections through our contact form, choosing "Correction request" as the topic. To help us act quickly, include:
- The link to the page containing the error.
- The specific sentence or figure that is wrong.
- What the correct information is.
- A source we can verify it against, if you have one.
Our response time
We aim to acknowledge correction requests within five working days and to resolve verified factual errors promptly once confirmed. Complex requests — for example those requiring us to re-run a comparison — take longer, and we will say so when we acknowledge your message.
Minor changes
Typographical fixes, broken links, formatting problems and clarifications that do not change meaning are corrected silently. These do not carry a correction note, though they may update the article's last-updated date.
Substantive corrections
Where an error changes the meaning of an article — a wrong figure, a misattributed claim, an incorrect ranking position, or a factual mistake about a brand, institution or place — we correct it and add a dated correction note to the article stating what was wrong and what changed. We do not quietly rewrite substantive errors.
Where correction notes appear
Correction notes are placed on the affected article itself, near the point of the error or at the foot of the article, and are dated. The last-updated date is revised at the same time.
Requests to change a ranking position
We will re-examine a position if you can point to a factual error in the evidence behind it. We will not change a position on request alone, and position changes are never available through any commercial arrangement. If our re-examination confirms the original assessment, we will tell you so.
Removal requests
We generally correct rather than remove, so that links keep working. Content may be removed where it is inaccurate and cannot be corrected, where it raises a legitimate legal or privacy concern, or where the subject no longer exists and the page would mislead. Send removal requests through the contact form explaining the grounds.
If you disagree with our decision
If you are not satisfied with how we handled a correction, reply to our response and ask for it to be escalated to the editorial team for a second review. We will respond with our reasoning.
